Untilted is the eighth studio album by Autechre released on Warp Records. It was originally released on April 18th, 2005.[1][2]
History
Much of Untilted uses "bits of drum machines, old MIDI sequencers, old analogue sequencers, MPCs, basically the whole gamut of equipment we’ve had around us for ages".[3] Much of the equipment that was used for Untilted ended up also being used for Quaristice.[4] In a Pitchfork interview, they mentioned that "there's no generative work or fader based MIDI stuff" on Untilted.[5]
The album was completed over the span of nine months.[6]
Tracks
LCC
- Sean used the Elektron Machinedrum MK2 specifically on the track.[7]
- "LCC" is the only time they used Song Mode on the Elektrons.[8]
- "LCC" appeared on the 2005-2007 live shows. (example)
Ipacial Section
- The spring reverb on the track (example being around 4:25) is one from a Analogus Systems Eurorack RS-310 module.[9]
Pro Radii
- "Pro Radii" appeared on the 2005-2007 live shows. (example)
- The start of "Pro Radii" were done by Rob[10] using his MPC for the beats,[11] and the end was done by Sean, yielding a 50/50 split in contributions.[12]
- "Pro Radii" briefly appears in Neill Blomkamp's short film "Yellow"[13]
Augmatic Disport
- "Augmatic Disport" appeared on the 2005-2007 live shows. (example)
Iera
- In a Pitchfork interview, they mentioned that "Iera" was "grid programmed, all onscreen, just nudging MIDI events around"[5]
Fermium
- Fermium is the 100th element on the periodic table, abbreviated to Fm.[14]
The Trees
- Rob answered a question regarding the origin of the noises at the end of "The Trees" by responding with "those noises are made from The Trees."[15]
Sublimit
- The track samples Sparky Dee and the Playgirl's "The Battle"[16]
- In a Pitchfork interview, they clarified that "Sublimit" was just "16-grid style" drum sequencing.[5]
- At almost 16 minutes in length, “Sublimit” was the longest song Autechre had released at that point. “Drane2”, off LP5, technically surpassed it at over 21 minutes long, but only 9 minutes of the runtime is the actual song. “Sublimit” was eventually beaten by “Perlence subrange 6-36”, off Quaristice.Quadrange.ep.ae, which is nearly an hour long.

Trivia
- The album’s title could be a reference to LP5, by being a play on words of “Untitled”.
- Around the time of the bfhmp3 leak for Untilted, a fake version of the record started circulating on file sharing services. The fake was created by Robert Martin of www.recordlabelrecord.org, using material from his album Lying On The Floor Mingling With God In A Tijuana Motel Room Next Door To A Veterinary Supply Store under the pseudonym Fluorescent Grey.[17] Robert argued that his previous successful hoax of a fake Iraq beheadinĺg was part of the motivating factor for this. That version became so widespread that in an interview with Inthemix, Sean confirmed that it was a fake, mentioning that "The more fakes the merrier, we’ve released fakes ourselves, but not this time." He also lamented over how Robert's "sense of priority is clearly fucked."[6]
- Excluding the bonus track on the Japanese CD release, Untilted has the shortest tracklist of any Autechre album, at only eight songs.
- There are 10 unused designs for Untilted, which can be found on an archive of Alex Rutterford's website.
- Most song lyric database websites have incorrect lyrics for " Augmatic Disport".
Whoh oh, oh This disport is so augmatic
(AUGMATIC) It is like a kind of magic
(MAGIC) And baby when you dance
I can see a bowl of crisps in your eyes (EYES)
