Oversteps is the tenth album by Autechre. It was originally released on April 30th, 2010 on Warp Records. It surprised many listeners and critics with it's focus on melody and ambiance and is often even thought to be a return to form for Rob and Sean. Pitchfork called it "almost organic compared to something like Confield".

Much of the record was done using Nord[1], G2, and Max using Markov chains with "conditional forcing scales and harmonies," [2] with much of the software developed for the sessions later being expand on in their 2013 record Exai.

Trivia

  • The cover art's rotated text, in conjunction with the prominent black circle, may be intentionally stylized to resemble the number 10, as Oversteps is Autechre’s tenth album.
  • The main FM synths used on Oversteps were FM8. [6]
  • The CAT number, WARP210, was likely specifically requested by Autechre, as it was the next available number with a “10” in it.
  • Sean answered in passing that a theme in Oversteps was of "memory". [7]
