Peel Session 2 is the second of two live sessions EPs by Autechre released on Warp Records The tracks were debuted on John Peel's show on September 8th, 1999,[1][2] and later released on December 11th, 2000.

History

The first 3 tracks were named by John Peel live on air. The tracks originally had titles by Autechre, but the list didn't get to Peel, letting Peel deduce on air they were untitled and thus thought he could name the tracks. Autechre ultimately decided to go with the names for the first 3.[3][4] The only track to not get named by Peel was "19 Headaches"

Tracks

Gelk

  • According to the ASCAP database, the track's alternate name is "Czr".[5]

Blifil

  • According to the ASCAP database, the track's alternate name is "C-Down".[6]

Gaekwad

  • John Peel mentioned in the broadcast he was thinking of the Indian cricket player Datta Gaekwad as he named the track. [3]
  • According to the ASCAP database, the track's alternate name is "Sqr Map".[7]
  • The track appeared in their 1997 live shows. (example)

19 Headaches

  • "19 Headaches" was made using Nord and Yahama RY30 with Logic Pro Environment. [8]
  • Peel wanted to originally call the track "Breadthwidth", but Autechre got in touch via email during the show to say the title should be "19 Headaches."[3] Earlier in the show at 23:43 (an hour before the track was played), Peel mentioned that the program was a lot calmer "cause I got about 19 headaches," coinciding with the cold he had that day.[2] This is highly likely where Autechre got the new name from.
  • According to the ASCAP database, the track's alternate name is "Pantium Chromedioxid".[9]
