AE_LIVE 2022-, otherwise known as twentytwentytwo, is a compilation of seven soundboard recordings taken from live shows performed throughout 2022. The first batch was released on August 10th, 2023.

History
During the Sean Twitch AMA, June 2022, Sean answered a few questions regarding the live material after having performed the first show of the twentytwentytwo tour. The tour was initially planned to be held in 2020<!-- trivia that there is speculation the title may be a second attempt at the twentytwenty tour, aka twentytwenty two? -->, before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the tour. Sean mentioned that on his end, he spent the time reworking the back end, getting interested in MC (multi-channel audio in max), physical modelling and scratching, with the last one seeing use on Gescom's AMKS_1. The end product was Sean noting that they had at least 3 and a half hours of material prepared.

XYLIN ROOM
The first show of the tour was performed at Primavera in Barcelona on the 3rd of June. In the AMA, Sean mentioned that that particular show did not go well, as they had to negotiate the rights to the soundboard from Primavera before messing up the recording regardless causing it to be left off the initial 2022 batch.

* One of the percussive samples is of a wooden garden table being knocked on. On October 4th, 2022, "AE_LIVE_HELSINKI_110922_LTD" was released early exclusively to attendants of the show, with the reasoning being due to technical issues during the show.<!-- should we possibly include the original cover? --><!-- also maybe find the official announcement of this --> Small glitches started to materialize a third into the show, which progressively became so distracting that by the last third of the show, it was plagued with loud pops and audio dropouts. <!-- very rough synthesis of the reddit and watmm source -->Explanation for the issues reigned in on it being due to the poor subwoofer setup and system clock drift, which in combination with the heavy subbass in the set caused a coil short circuit in the speakers. The soundboard was left unmastered for this release, and later rereleased with proper mastering. <!-- there's mention of similar issues at Athens, though it was not intense enough to warrant any announcement. Doubt it should be included but thought I should note. -->
* The original title was "Benk Chin".

IV VV IV VV VIII
On August 7th, 2023, Warp sent out an announcement to sign up for to the newsletter. The following day, AE_LIVE 2022- was officially announced, and the first batch of shows from Milan 2022 to Turin 2022 was released individually and as a compilation on the 10th. The hyphen added to the end of the title indicated the possibility of future sets being added at a later date.

* The original title was "nwnw8", with the final title being a heavily stylised version of that title - substituting N for IV and W for VV.
In a Mastodon post on November 18th, 2023, he gave an update that the material was up to "about 4 hours long so far and growing steadily."
* "IV VV IV VV VIII" was initially released as a single for Draft 7.30, both for radio play and download.<!-- the second link requires a flash player like Ruffle, but it shows a minisite which has a link to an IV VV mp3 download -->

* The original title was "606.ie" in the CDDB, which Sean also confirmed in interview that it was initially called that because "it was based on a manipulation of a 606 sound." {| class="wikitable"

!
* The original title was "reppat", which when reversed spells out "tapper".
!#1

!#2
SURRIPERE
!#3

!#4
* The track initially started life as two separate tracks, with the second half made before the first. Later in development, they realised that both tracks had the same 120BPM tempo and decided to combine it for the final track. <!-- Subtle note, Sean used "us" which implies Surripere at the minimum was decided together to be combined. But this could also indicate that the track was a collaborative effort as a whole -->
!#5
* "Surripere" consists of a a fake analog (Nord?) on the first part, and a Nord Lead with Native Battery's loop modulation on the second part's "crunchy stuff."

* The original title was "Theft". The final title "Surripere" is the Latin word that became surreptitious, meaning doing something stealthily. A straight translation of "Surripere" is in fact "theft"

THEME OF SUDDEN ROUNDABOUT
* “Theme Of Sudden Roundabout” is a reference to Sudden, a suburb of Rochdale, where Rob and Sean grew up. !#11
* The original title, as listed on CDDB, was "Prince Moth Mothy Moth Moth". In the WATMM Ask Autechre Anything, Rob mentions this was wrong, that the original title ended with Mother, as in someone who does moth. However, in 2023, when Sean was asked about the title again, he mentioned that it was just Moth at the end. In that same post, Sean explained that the track was called that after an "epically large moth" landed on their Nord Modular and sat there for much of the track.

* The main equipment used for live shows are two M1 Macs running Max/MSP, Kenton Killamix controllers, Apogee Symphony Desktop, Apogee Element 24, and MOTU M2. * The original title was "Vlimpton Alpha 5", which the final title is just an abbreviation of.
* During a mixlr stream on March 30th, 2020, Sean skimmed through some of their jam folders, which included a few snippets of material of the live material in an early state.
* In December 2022, Sean posted two max demos to Mastodon; one on the 10th and one on the 15th.<!-- insert explanation of why he posted it, context of the mastadon thread and shit -->It has since been confirmed to be live show patches as both appeared in the Sydney and Dublin sets.<!-- slightly premature but i think AE_LIVE pages can contain information about the tour of not released soundboards. -->
** In the top right corner of the 15th December demo, "three tone" is written, possibly indicating the section title.
** Also in the 15th demo, one of the files loaded into a sampler (likely indicating a sample used in the live material) is Gap Band's "Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)"
* The CAT number, WARP444, was likely specifically requested by Autechre, to reference the song "444" off their first album, Incunabula.
* The main cover art for AE_LIVE 2022- consists of all the individual set art overlaid on top of each other.

* The original title listed in the CDDB was "kidney bean". The final title consists of "Reniform", which means kidney-shaped, and "Puls", which is just short for Pulse. * "Reniform Puls" is the only track to have any use of Max/MSP on Draft 7.30, however most of it was still DAWs: "mostly done in digital performer, but there's loads of hardware on there, and bits of modular stuff." * The album’s title implies that the released version is the 30th edit of the band’s seventh album.
* Sean noted that Draft 7.30 was "really straight, using straight-up normal sequencers and samplers." With the exception of some generative elements on "RENIFORM PULS", Draft 7.30 was otherwise written "note by note". Alongside that, a lot of Digital Performer was used, with some use cases being "triggering a sampler from the sequencer (akai z8 over midi)". * Before the release of Draft 7.30, early tracks titles were uploaded to CDDB (each track has their original title listed in their respective section). AE_LIVE 2022-

The tour was initially planned to be held in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the tour. Sean mentioned that on his end, he spent the time reworking the back end, getting interested in MC (multi-channel audio in max), physical modelling and scratching, with the last one seeing use on Gescom's AMKS_1. [1] The end product was Sean noting that they had at least 3 and a half hours of material prepared.

The first show of the tour was performed at Primavera in Barcelona on the 3rd of June. In the AMA, Sean mentioned that that particular show did not go well, as they had to negotiate the rights to the soundboard from Primavera before messing up the recording regardless causing it to be left off the initial 2022 batch.[2]

On October 4th, 2022, "AE_LIVE_HELSINKI_110922_LTD" was released early exclusively to attendants of the show, with the reasoning being due to technical issues during the show.[3] Small glitches started to materialize a third into the show, which progressively became so distracting that by the last third of the show, it was plagued with loud pops and audio dropouts. Explanation for the issues reigned in on it being due to the poor subwoofer setup and system clock drift, which in combination with the heavy subbass in the set caused a coil short circuit in the speakers.[4][5] The soundboard was left unmastered for this release, and later rereleased with proper mastering.

In a Mastodon post on November 18th, 2023, he gave an update that the material was up to "about 4 hours long so far and growing steadily." [6]

    • In the top right corner of the 15th December demo, "three tone" is written, possibly indicating the section title.
    • Also in the 15th demo, one of the files loaded into a sampler (likely indicating a sample used in the live material) is Gap Band's "Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me)"
  • The CAT number, WARP444, was likely specifically requested by Autechre, to reference the song "444" off their first album, Incunabula.
